US Soccer named San Diego Wave defender Naomi Girma 2023 player of the year. The 23 year-old is the first pure defender to win the award in nearly 40 years. Paired with the recent news that the NWSL is increasing it's salary cap, all things are looking up for us as fans. Amazing athletes in the league + investment = excitement!
Only one team remains undefeated in NCAA Women's basketball after LSU's Sun, Jan 14th loss to Auburn. That's right, it's Dawn Staley's University of South Carolina Gamecocks. The NCAA Women's basketball season is chalk-full of incredible match-ups and games. We can't wait for march madness!
The Australian Open is off to a hot start this week. In the first two rounds there are have already been many notable upsets: #6 Ons Jabeur was upset by 16 year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva and top ranked Caroline Wozniacki was upset by 20 year-old Russian Maria Tomafeeva.
